Normale is a graphic research of the Finnish natural landscape and its materiality, investigating the translation from physical to digital, and backwards. A developing collection of low/side glass tables digitally printed with normal mapping textures*.
In 3D computer graphics, normal mapping is a technique used for faking the lighting of bumps and dents. It is used to add details without adding complexity to the used geometry. The maps are generated from materials typical of the Finnish landscape, photographed and post-processed into a digital image which simulate their materiality, then transposed on solid, smooth, shiny extra-clear glass. Like a screen.
Normale has been exhibited ad Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair 2019 in the young talents section Greenhouse.
