We designed the first Finnjävel in 2016 for the historical Sundman’s building in Helsinki: a pop-up restaurant planned for a two-year life span that became a great success. This is Finnjävel’s second coming. The restaurant has a new location in Helsinki Kunsthalle and consists of two parts; the Salon, which offers a sophisticated fine-dining experience, and the Hall, which brings it down to earth.
The restaurant is a total work of art where every single element is design site-specific, following the needs of the chefs and staff. Even the simplest of furniture has been technically designed to work within a complex space, such as the Kunsthalle. To create a great dining experience every aspect has been designed together with the chefs and the Sommelier. For example, custom made objects like glasses and dishes; custom made furniture like tables, chairs, lights, bathroom furniture, sinks and even a massive wine cabinet.
Given the particularity of the concept and the building, unconventional furnishing elements have been created to help the chefs obtain a smooth service and offer customers the best culinary experience. An example is the Centerpiece: a piece of wooden furniture that includes a variety of functions, like a wine fridge, an electric stove, a wine cooler, electric sockets and multiple drawers with plenty of storage. The furniture has been designed to create a central, movable element that meets all the essential functions required by a restaurant. Thanks to him, all other storage has been eliminated from the room, obtaining more space for the tables and facilitating the work of the waiters, who have everything they need in a single element.
